If you own an HP All-in-One printer including an HP Photosmart or Officejet and you have upgraded to Mac OS X Snow Leopard you probably discovered that scanning no longer works using HP’s Device Manager software. HP All-in-One printer software is included in the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard retail DVD, and also available via Apple Software Updates, and with new Mac computers shipping with Snow Leopard.
HP is working on developing new software that will work with Snow Leopard and your HP Photosmart or Officejet printer soon. In the meantime we’ve included HP’s instructions on how to scan using software included in Snow Leopard through Preview, Image Capture or Print & Fax. We probably would recommend using Preview because it’s the easiest to use with the least amount of steps.
Important: Do not reinstall software from original HP Photosmart, Officejet, Deskjet CDs, or HP web downloads from previous Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4, or 10.5. Older software is not compatible with Snow Leopard.
New with Snow Leopard, the Scanning interface to HP Inkjet All-in-One devices is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application. There are three ways to perform scanning from your HP All-in-One:

-
From the Preview File pull-down menu, choose Import from Scanner .
-
Choose the HP Photosmart, Officejet, or Deskjet All-in-One.

Important: If the Scan or Print icons do not appear in the Printer Browser window toolbar, you need to delete the current HP printer queue and add a new one, as follows:

-
Select your HP printer in the list on the left.
-
Click the - sign at the bottom of the list to delete the product from the list.
-
Click the + sign at the bottom of the list to add the product back to the list.
-
Select your HP printer, and then click Add to create a new print queue. The next time you open the Printer Browser window, the Print and Scan icons should appear in the toolbar, providing access to Image Capture.
